Booklaunch "European Kunsthalle 2005 2006 2007" and
Introduction of the new Programme Team
Presentation at Kölnischer Kunstverein, 11/30/2007

After its two-year founding period with Nicolaus Schafhausen and Vanessa Joan Müller, the European Kunsthalle is now entering a new phase. Having initiated an international debate concerning the necessity of and possible form for a new Kunsthalle in Cologne, its task is to continue and expand the European Kunsthalle’s programme work.

The event on November 30 at the Kölnischer Kunstverein is conceived as both an interim evaluation and chance to outline future prospects.

Vanessa Joan Müller, Astrid Wege and Nikolaus Hirsch (Spaces of Production) will introduce “European Kunsthalle 2005 2006 2007”, a publication that recounts the activities of the founding phase activity and provides a glimpse into how the project might be continued. A major contribution is the study “Spaces of Production”, which develops a possible spatial-architectural scenario for the European Kunsthalle by investigating selected art institutions as a point of departure.

Astrid Wege (Cologne), Anders Kreuger (Lund/Vilnius) and Bartomeu Marí (Barcelona) – members of the newly-formed team which also includes Rike Frank (Vienna/Berlin) – will be outlining the prospects for the European Kunsthalle and its future orientation. The idea of the ‘European’ as an ongoing practice in cooperation remains an important aspect, as does the notion of anchoring the European Kunsthalle in Cologne.

On this evening the new publication "The Question of the Day", being published by Sternberg Press in December, will be launched as well.

Our special thanks to the Kölnischer Kunstverein for hosting this event.
