Lectures, Panels, Presentations, 1 - 31 March 2006, Cologne Under Construction
From March 1-31, 2006 the EUROPEAN KUNSTHALLE was holding “Under Construction”, a series of events that took place each day at different cultural locations in Cologne. Current issues on location advantages, financing models, and trends in contemporary art and presenting them in art institutions formed the thematic background for the events, which while independent of one another referenced the same subjects. A key component here were individual lectures by international speakers, who offered a wide variety of different scholarly and practical perspectives on the topics. This was rounded out by a focus on cultural policy today and the development of alternative concepts – panel discussions, as well as smaller talk shows were forming the communicative setting for the debate. The goal behind “Under Construction”: to bring together representatives of different disciplines and render the process of defining the parameters for a new European Kunsthalle accessible to the broader general public. The publication "Under Construction. Perspectives on Institutional Practice", that documents most of the events, was presented on 2nd September at Buchhandlung Walther König (Ehrenstraße 4) in Cologne. „Schrumpfende Städte“
